For horror movie fans, May is an exciting month. Four highly anticipated horror movies are coming out, including The Backrooms, Hokum, Obsession, and Passenger.
The first one that came out May 1 is the film Hokum by Damian McCarthy starring Adam Scott. This film follows the story of a man visiting a remote motel, but there is a tale of a witch that ends up haunting him.
Not only are many people talking about it on social media but it is also living up to the hype by getting a rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, 7.4/10 on IMDb, and 83% on Fandango.
The next one up is Obsession by Curry Barker with the studio Blumhouse starring Michael Johnson coming out on May 15. This film is showing the story of a man who makes a wish to win over his crush’s heart but discovers that maybe this wish isn’t as amazing as it seemed.
This movie has been rated an amazing 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning it has almost a perfect score with all critics. This movie will be a must watch for horror movie fans as you can tell just from the studio it comes from that it will be a hit. Blumhouse has made other incredible hits like The Blackphone, Get Out, and M3gan.
The film Passenger by André Øvredal comes out on May 22. Jacob Scipio plays the main character who goes on a van road trip with his girlfriend, just to witness an accident and realize they may have something following them.
There is not much out on this movie yet with only a teaser trailer out so far. But the director has also made the movie autopsy of Jane Doe which is a loved horror movie on social media, so this movie will most likely also be just as good.
The final big film coming out is The Backrooms by Kane Parsons starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. It comes out on May 29 and is the most hyped movie out of all of these.
This is the film adaptation of the YouTube and other social media platforms’ story about another dimension you can enter that is made up of different levels that have their own “Entities” in them.
These movies will all be amazing in their own ways, so if they seem like they may peak your interest then you should definitely give them a chance.
