Big Dipper brought in brand new flavors for the month of March, scooping festive St. Patrick’s Day flavors. From creamy Irish coffee to fresh mint to salty pistachio, Big Dipper is sure to have a special that will suit you this month.
Starting with my personal favorite on the menu, Leprechaun’s Twist: this new flavor is a mix of mint chip and toasted marshmallow ice cream with golden sugar swirled throughout. This ice cream has a very festive look with the green and gold colors and the flavor is nothing short of its appearance. You can really taste both the marshmallow and mint in one bite. I would say that there was more toasted marshmallow in my scoop than mint which made it extra sweet, but there was a perfect amount of chocolate chips and golden swirl throughout. I rate the Leprechauns Twist flavor a 4.5 out of 5.
My second favorite special was the Irish Thin Mint. This ice cream had an Irish cream base with crushed thin mints mixed within. The Irish cream flavor was very prominent making the base extra creamy and delicious. My scoop only had one big chunk of thin mint, but the classic cookie flavor could be tasted throughout. The scoop was a light cream color with cookie specks throughout. I rate the Irish Thin Mint flavor a 4 out of 5.
Derry Downpour was my third favorite, a combination of an Irish coffee ice cream base with brownie and chocolate swirl. The coffee flavor was extremely strong and the taste lasted for a while. I did not have much brownie or chocolate in my scoop so it was really just coffee ice cream. The color was dark brown and had a very creamy and perfect texture. I rate the Derry Downpour flavor a 3.5 out of 5.
Next was the Pistachio ice cream. I am not a huge fan of salty ice cream, but if you enjoy Big Dipper’s salted caramel flavor on their normal menu, then you are sure to like this one. It was on the salty side and the pistachio flavor was very strong all throughout. The color was a perfect green and the creamy texture was mixed with thin pistachio shavings. I rate the Pistachio flavor a 3.5 out of 5.
If you’ve been looking for a festive treat to celebrate the month of the Irish, stop by Missoula’s local Big Dipper on South Higgins Avenue. The wide variety of specials will surely satisfy your sweet tooth.
