Around this time of year it’s normal to notice hallways feeling a bit quieter and backpacks getting a little heavier— weighed down by both books and stress. For many Hellgate students, finals can feel overwhelming, but with the right mindset, they’re manageable.
Planning ahead is a great way to reduce stress. Try creating a simplistic study schedule revolving around your daily tasks. Break big subjects into smaller, less intimidating chunks— short focused study sessions can be much more effective than late night cramming.
Taking care of yourself is just as important, if not more important than studying. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating regular healthy meals, and staying hydrated. It may seem cliche, but practicing those 3 habits you will notice a big difference in focus and mood. If you ever feel overwhelmed try talking to a friend, or a trusted adult. Teachers and counselors can also really help put finals into perspective— don’t be afraid to reach out.
Finals week is serious, but it’s not deadly. Don’t let school completely define you, do your best, take care of yourself, and remember that this one week won’t determine your future. Good luck— you got this!
