Fall is a great time to snuggle in and watch a movie but picking the right movie can be a challenge. Here is a list of movies that give fall vibes and they can add to the whole fall experience.
If you are looking for funny and feel good fall/Halloween movies here are some of my top picks, in no particular order: Hocus Pocus, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Hubie Halloween, Knives Out, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and The Harry Potter series. These movies are all entertaining and are fun for a wide variety of audiences. You can watch them with your family or by yourself, and most of them are classics that can be watched and rewatched, multiple times.
Hocus Pocus is a great example of a movie that is timeless. Although it was made in 1993 it is considered a Halloween and fall classic and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Hocus Pocus is about 3 sister witches who are accidentally summoned by the main character (Max) because he thinks that all of the witch stories in Salem, Massachusetts are fake. Once the witches arrive in the town they have one night to steal the life force from the children in the town. Mayhem ensues with plenty of humor infused.
Fall rom-coms are always good movies to watch, and what makes them even better is when you find the perfect one to match the vibe of the season. For example: When Harry Met Sally starts in the fall and ends around New Year’s Eve making it a great movie to watch when fall and winter are just starting to mix. Also in the rom-com category is another classic movie that takes place in the fall: Ten Things I Hate About You. It is an adorable high school romance where what starts out as a bet turns into a real emotional connection that threatens to devolve as a result of lying and deception.
Halloween is also a time to watch some great horror movies. The horror genre is one that spans across seasons i.e., the movie can take place at any time of the year as long as it is scary. My personal favorite is As Above So Below. It is a found footage film that is full of perfectly timed jumpscares and makes you feel as if you are actively in the Catacombs under Paris with the main characters. If claustrophobia is an issue for you I should warn you, this movie does a fantastic and realistic job of making the movie go-er feel claustrophobic while watching. Another classic horror movie that I enjoy is the Scream series. The first Scream movie is pretty good but it is rated R. The 5th and 6th movies are my favorites because they both have Jenna Ortega in them and I think she is a great actress. They were funny and entertaining and kept me interested throughout. Some other ones I would recommend are: The Barbarian, The Fear Street trilogy, and the entire Conjuring universe. Overall, my advice is snuggle in and put on a great fall flick, there are so many to choose from, it’s hard to go wrong.
