A cold and sweet ice cream treat is not just for the hot summer days. At Big Dipper, they scoop flavors that fulfill each season’s cravings, serving many customers all year long. Big Dipper’s festive fall flavors are sure to put you in the cozy autumn mood. From spooky Halloween scoops to refreshing fruity ones, this month’s specials board is bursting with flavor.
Raspberry White Chocolate is one of my favorite specials I have tried at Big Dipper. Though I am not a super big white chocolate fan, the large chips mixed throughout the creamy light pink ice cream adds the perfect sweet crunch. The bursting red raspberry flavor is on the sweet side and it’s a pretty thick and creamy texture, melting perfectly in your mouth. Overall I rate this flavor a 5 out of 5.
Arnold Palmer Sorbet is perfect if you’re going for a refreshing non-dairy option. If you’ve ever tried Big Dipper’s Lemon Sorbet, the Arnold Palmer version is pretty similar tang and sweetness wise. It is very sour, but the added tea flavor brings both the sweetness and the sour levels down a notch. It melted pretty quickly and as it did it became slightly syrupy, but the taste nonetheless is sure to satisfy every tastebud. I rate this flavor a 4.7 out of 5.
Spooky Season, one of the most festive options on the menu this Halloween, was a purple root base dyed vanilla ice cream with pieces of Butterfingers, Snickers, and mini M&Ms mixed throughout. The ice cream’s texture was very smooth and creamy and the candy offered a nice crunch in every bite. However, it was an extremely sweet option. I rate this flavor a 3 out of 5.
Hazelnut Stracciatella was a hazelnut base swirled with melted dark chocolate and hazelnut pieces throughout. The ice cream was very creamy and smooth which I liked, but it really just tasted like vanilla. I liked the chocolate swirl that was in almost every bite, and the nut pieces added a delicious crunch. I rate this flavor a 3.5 out 5.
Caramel Apple is perfect for any fall day as it tasted like a piece of fresh apple pie. There were lots of spices mixed throughout, primarily cinnamon, but the texture was somewhat icy. Overall I rate this flavor a 4 out of 5.
Witches’ Twist was another festive flavor swirling black and orange ice cream together with marshmallow sauce throughout. The black ice cream was Big Dipper’s black licorice flavor offered all year round, and the orange ice cream was their popular Pumpkin flavor, offered in pints for the fall months. I loved the look of this ice cream as it was festive colors and I enjoyed the pumpkin and marshmallow, however I am not a huge licorice ice cream fan, so that brought the rating down for me. The swirl was well done and both flavors were equally prominent in my scoop as well as a good amount of marshmallow sauce. I rate this flavor a 2.5 out of 5.
Vegan Chocolate was like a chocolate sorbet, very icy but the chocolate flavor was still very prominent. The flavor was closer to the taste of cocoa powder rather than straight chocolate as it was less sweet than the average chocolate ice cream, but it was still pretty good for a vegan flavor. I rate this flavor a 3 out of 5.
This list of specials had many options, all festive for the season. You wouldn’t want to miss your chance to try these flavors, so go grab your own scoop before these specials are sold out!
