Hellgate High School’s Homecoming Week was yet another success. The week was full of school dress up days, fun activities, sporting events, the homecoming dance, and of course, Hellgate Football’s homecoming game.
Monday started off strong with the spirit week theme of “Color Day”. Each grade dressed as a different color: freshmen wore pink, sophomores wore blue, juniors wore green, and seniors wore orange. At lunch there was Constitutional Trivia in honor of Freedom Week. To wrap up the day, a school Open House was held for parents to meet their kid’s teachers and try out their schedule in seven-minute periods.
Tuesday’s spirit week was a success with “Jersey Out”. At lunch there were free ice cream sandwiches and bomb pops being passed out. Girls Soccer played Sentinel at the Sentinel Fields ending in a tied game at one point each. Boys Soccer also played Sentinel at the Sentinel Fields resulting in a Hellgate win, 2-1. Girls Volleyball played Glacier at Hellgate High School taking another Hellgate win.
Wednesday’s spirit week theme was “Red, White and Blue” and marked the first day of the Hoco week Cornhole Tournament at lunch in the courtyard. After school was a Hellgate Bonfire with pizza, introductions of all Homecoming Royalty, and a bonfire lighting the Glacier Wolfpack’s mascot aflame, this year’s Homecoming rival.
Thursday’s spirit week theme “Western” brought in many boots, hats, and flannels. The Cornhole semi-finals at lunch brought two teams to the Cornhole championship which were held at the Friday assembly. Hellgate’s Flag Football team played Flathead, and after an overtime, Hellgate came out on top.
Friday’s spirit week theme “Red and Gold” filled the school halls with Hellgate spirit and pride. The big day started off with an assembly including the Hellgate Band performing the school’s Fight Song, Hellgate Choir performing the National Anthem, and Hellgate Cheer and Dance performing routines. The winners of the Cornhole Finals were Juniors Carter Dumke and Gabe Hammit. The Hellgate’s famous shopping cart jousting tournament winners were Juniors Joey Bazo and Max Finn.
The Hellgate Homecoming game against Glacier had the MCPS Stadium filled. Students came decked out in red and gold spirit and ready to support the Hellgate Football team. At halftime, Homecoming King Slade Jones, and Homecoming Queen Elly Reed, were announced and crowned. The halftime performance included Hellgate Band, Hellgate Color Guard, Hellgate Dance Team, and Hellgate Cheer Team, which all raised the spirit and energy for the rest of the game.
The Homecoming dance was held on Saturday, wrapping up the spirit packed week. The dance was hosted in the University of Montana’s ballroom and had a great turnout. The room was full of music, dancing, pictures, disco lights, treats, raffles, and fun!
The overall week was successfully packed with lots of Hellgate festivities. From dress up days to activities to games to dances, Homecoming week is surely one of the most festive and spirited weeks of the entire year!
