Hellgate High School officially has their own mascot – Knoble the Knight. This new role was introduced at the beginning of this school year. You will see Knoble at school spirit events and as a part of the spirit crew. As junior class vice-president Jack Pew said, the mascot will “represent our school’s values and pride in a fun, engaging way, and to help build a stronger sense of community and identity.”
The main leaders on this mascot project were Pew and Cecelia Spencer, the Junior Class officers, along with help from other members of Hellgate’s Student Government. According to Spencer, the mascot will be a part of “sports games, student sections, cheerleading, and a recognizable part of our school spirit.”
The Hellgate Dance Team coach, Kylie Lopuch, said that she also “would like the mascot to be an aspect of Hellgate’s Spirit Squad,” by “incorporating appearances in halftime routines.” Hellgate students should keep an eye out for Knoble to whip out some dance moves at sporting events!
With the efforts of Student Government, Hellgate was able to fundraise enough money to buy a brand new and high-quality knight costume. Towards the end of last school year, they launched a Snap! Raise fundraiser, where senators and officers gathered support from friends, family, and the community.
This mascot costume includes a full head-to-toe set of armor, a red cape, and Hellgate’s HK shield logo on the chest. According to Pew, the outfit was “custom-made in the Netherlands by a professional costume company.” It was handcrafted and shipped overseas with our own Hellgate design.
In order to pick who got the honor of being Knoble the Knight, Student Government hosted tryouts at the end of last school year. A panel made up of students and advisors that reviewed mascot applications evaluated individuals based on “energy, school spirit, and ability to represent Hellgate positively,” Pew said.
They were able to settle on one spirited individual, but the identity of this Hellgate student must remain classified. Student Government is open to additional people filling the role of mascot, so if you or anyone you know are interested, reach out to any student government officer!
Hellgate has had a mascot before, but in recent years that role has disappeared. Now that both Big Sky and Sentinel have their mascots, Hellgate was in desperate need of our own. With the GOAT game coming up soon, this mascot is a necessity to our school, our spirit and our unity.
Keep watch for Knoble the Knight appearances at Hellgate games and events! This new school mascot is sure to bring the extra spirit to the Hellgate student section, halftime performances, assemblies, and events. Thanks again to Pew and Spencer for making this mascot possible at Hellgate High School!
