Pearfat Parfum is a company dedicated to capturing memories of growing up through the art of scents. All scents are made to be genderfluid and for everyone, though there tends to be one odd note within the perfume. When I say “ odd note” I mean metallic and the smell of vinyl and wet concrete, as examples.
Pearfat is certainly intriguing, but buying a whole bottle of perfume that you have never smelled can be quite risky. For that reason they sell a sampler kit with nine different unique scents. The perfumes are: Stomped on Bed of Lettuce, Kewpie Doll, I Broke My Own Heart, 2030 Park Avenue, Rabbit Rabbit, Bread + Roses, Multiball, Amicus Cumulus, and I’ll Never Learn.
I Broke My Own Heart is a heavy perfume – the scent itself isn’t what makes it so heavy but rather the moody slump of a teenage heartbreak that emanates off each note. The top notes of this perfume are hot cocoa, petitgrain, and teen angst, with middle notes of coconut, jasmine, and favorite sweatshirt. Base notes of seaweed and sandalwood round out the scent. To me the perfume smelled of incense and meringue. I instantly fell in love with the smell of this perfume and the story embedded in it.
Multiball is a musky scent with sparkly notes. It reminds me of the smell of an old diner when you put your head down on the table. With top notes of spilled cola, bells and chimes, the middle notes of patchouli and metal are complemented by base notes of waxy cedarwood flooring. This scent is extremely nostalgic for me. It heavily reminds me of grandparents taking you out for lunch. I was expecting this perfume to be my go to out of the sample kit but surprisingly it’s not my favorite
2030 Park Avenue has an extremely musky scent that is definitely not for me, it was too strong. The top notes are: french 75 (a sparkling cocktail), candied lemon and a sprinkle of spring rain. Middle notes are: Ambrette and tuberose. Base notes are: warm wood and velvet. To me this perfume just smells like smoke which isn’t very appealing in my opinion. I’ve tried to wear this perfume multiple times just to give it a chance but it still just doesn’t sit right with me.
Amicus Cumulus is a sweeter scent that reminds me of the end of the summertime. The sadness and reminiscing of summer memories and the regret from not making the most of it. This perfume reminds me of adolescence and back to school dread in the best way possible. I am considering buying a full bottle of this perfume because of how beautifully the notes go together. Amicus Cumulus has top notes of: fluffy clouds and ozone. Middle notes of: oolong tea and fresh strawberries. Base notes of : sweet black licorice and good omens. The top notes that I get are the smell of fresh strawberries, oolong and a subtle note of black licorice. I wouldn’t be surprised if the black licorice threw people off but it surprisingly completes the scent.
Stomped on a Bed of Lettuce smells like heading to work on a summer morning, freshly showered and a stomach full of greens. Overall the scent is very clean and refreshing. The top notes are: pink pepper, rhubarb and grapefruit. Middle notes are: patchouli, frankincense and civet. The base notes are: oakmoss saltwater and body heat. It truly does capture the smell of a garden and the sun shining down on your face.
Bread and Roses reminds me of seeing an old friend that you had a fight with, the air is tense between you two and you feel sick to your stomach but then again you are reminded of the beauty of your past relationship together. The smell of this perfume is warm and cozy with a touch of freshness. The top notes are: fresh baguette, sweet orange and familiar warmth. The middle note is red rose petals. The base notes are: cocoa, nutmeg and labdanum (a type of resin). The first time I wore this perfume I felt sickened by it, I think I sprayed too much on me and the smell was just too overwhelming, but the second time I wore it I thoroughly enjoyed every note, and I am definitely thinking of buying a full bottle of this perfume, I would recommend giving it a second chance if you are not into it at first.
Rabbit Rabbit smelt like a kitchen full of exotic baked goods. The perfume is the sweetest one out of the bundle, even though it’s a very calm sweetness. Rabbit Rabbit has top notes of: turmeric and juniper. Middle notes of: carrots, cake and apricots. Base notes of barley and galangal (a root similar to ginger). This perfume reminds me of the sweetness of childhood. The perfume itself feels innocent and pure with no harsh notes such as metal and smoke like other perfumes in this sample kit. I am considering buying a bottle of this perfume because it is very unique from the other scents in the kit and i just really quite enjoy it
Kewpie Doll was the only perfume out of the sample kit that I was nervous to try. With top notes of: cherub cheeks, sweet basil and calabrian bergamot. Middle notes of: a new vinyl doll, summer blooms and tomato leaf. Base notes of: nanas back porch. I am not a fan of tomato leaf scents and I was worried it would overpower this perfume but I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, almost sweet floral scent that I got from it. The note “nanas back porch” really had me intrigued, this really sparked my imagination while smelling. I overall did quite enjoy this one. I probably wouldn’t buy a whole bottle though.
Lastly, I’ll Never Learn is a very cologne-esque perfume. It smells very “boy-ish” perhaps it reminds most of their first love. This perfume smells like the excitement of a new relationship and the pain of remembering the good moments after a bad moment. With top notes of bergamot, lavender and fog. Middle notes of: candied violet, geranium and orris, base notes of: suede jacket, moss and heartbreak. I was very intrigued by this perfume and was expecting for it to have a more floral pallet. The suede jacket and lavender really pull through in this one. When I first tested this one I wasn’t a fan, I thought it was too strong but the more I wore it the more obsessed with it I became.
Overall, the Pearfat sample collection was a wonderful experience to wear and write about. I hope that I have sparked interest in those of you who are fond of smelling unique and nice. Though perfumes seem to smell different on everyone, I hope that my descriptions will motivate you to smell something new and use your imagination to tell a story within a scent.
