With the world around us rapidly changing, it can be hard for high schoolers to cope with this change while also figuring out how to start their lives. It is important to see the good in things as well as the bad. We asked Hellgate High School students how they find hope while the world around them is changing.

“I feel like I love to surround myself with people who make me feel really good, and I can expect to build me up when I’m struggling.” -Stella Harberd
“I play Minecraft.” -Emmett Adams
“I find a lot of hope in the little everyday things. I try not to look to hard at the big picture and just remind myself that human existence is so interesting and cool outside of what we have created as far as the bad things and that there’s a lot of good things that we’ve created to cope with those bad things anyway, so there will always be good that comes out of the bad.” -Hilde Hamilton
“I like to listen to music, especially happy and positive music.” – Kyori Davis
“So basically I just pay attention to what’s right in front of me because all my friends are wonderful, kind, and not racist, and the people I meet at work are lovely and there’s sunshine and the lilacs are blooming and I have great ideas for the future and I get to eat my food all the time and stuff like that.” -Echo McTague
“How I find hope in today’s day and age is really being surrounded by a lot of strong independent women, and I think that has a lot of inspiration for myself as a woman in today’s society knowing that it is possible for me to do all these things. And it’s just mainly like the people I surround myself with that I really have inspiration for, like my sister who’s a scientist, my sisters friend who’s a firefighter, it’s just really knowing that women in my community do care and knowing so many women who want to make an active change that keeps me going, especially because it means that I can also be part of that change.” -Sarah Craig
“I think that it is really important to count your blessings! Listing in your head what you’re grateful for, or writing a list can really open your perspective. Even being grateful to be able bodied, and have friends! I think a good group of friends is also really helpful, surrounding yourself with good people reminds you not only what you love about the world, but reminds you what you love about yourself.” -Salome Daniel
“I find hope in the idea that someday me and my peers will be in charge of the systems in place and will be able to change them.” -Malakai Murphy
“I find a lot of hope through my friends and my family, and I also try to remember how much worse it could be. I listen to a lot of true crime, so if I’m feeling bad, I am reminded that at least I’m not getting chopped up in the woods.” Soraya Kiely
