On March 28, 2025 Myanmar’s second largest city “Sagaing”  was struck by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake. This earthquake caused at least 2,886 deaths, but hundreds of people are still missing. This earthquake was felt hundreds of miles away causing an extra 21 deaths. Mayanmar is a war torn country and has been under civil war after a military coup in 2021. Myanmar’s military gained power in 2021 after the election of Aung San Suu Kyi. A military coup is a sudden violent attempt to take over government power by part of an army. Following the earthquake Myanmar allegedly  opened fire  at a Chinese red cross convoy that was carrying aid supplies for the earthquake. Since then there has been a temporary ceasefire announced by the People’s Defense Force. to help speed up recovery after this fatal earthquake. This cease fire is set to take place april 2 until april 22. This cease fire also has reserved the right to self defense. Morgan MIcheals, a Singapore based analyst has said that it is too early to say if a pause in fighting could lead to something longer lasting. Relief efforts will be difficult to proceed with considering the fact that Myanmar has been plagued by war since it was established in 1948. The ongoing Civil war in Myanmar will continue to make.
