Popular artist Playboi Carti released a new album after a drawn out wait. The long overdue mixtape “MUSIC” was released after five years of leaks and teases, but was the wait worth it? In short, no. As far as we know Carti has had no health issues and hasn’t been struggling with anything, so making millions of devoted fans wait five years for any album is not really worth it.
Many people thought the album was amazing, but the overall consensus was that it was just so-so – it was just like all of his other music and didn’t really stand out. The album felt like it was written to completion in less than five months and only published because Carti needed money. Nobody knows what his true intentions were making everybody wait; there has been little explanation.
The album had many features with other famous artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weekend, and many more, although they were not named on the songs. Speaking of the songs, the few that stood out more than others were EVIL JORDAN with Kendrick Lamar; although Lamar’s lyrics on this song were a little bit cheesy the song overall was pretty good. Lamar has a lot of power over the community, so songs with him on it often get a lot of popularity. RATHER LIE, with The Weekend also gained a lot of popularity after the drop. The song doesn’t emulate the typical flow and lyrics of Carti songs and has a more sing-songy vibe to it making it one of the few songs on the album that were more popular. There are also songs where Carti does his thing and does his usual mumble scream rap that has become his staple. OLYMPIAN and MUNYON were the best songs on this album with no features.
Only a few days after the release of MUSIC, Carti dropped the deluxe to his album labeled ‘MUSIC – SORRY FOR DA WAIT’ which included three more songs that again fell short of expectations. People think that Carti didn’t make enough money off of the first album and this was his attempt to make as much as possible as quickly as possible, while others think that he just thought it would be funny.
All in all this album was just okay, the wait was not worth it and the songs were very ordinary. I think Carti is an amazing artist but he doesn’t apply himself correctly and he doesn’t know how to appeal to his audience.
