The Super Bowl, a long standing tournament that has been around since 1967. Every year two football teams fight their way up to the game to play for the title and glory. This year it was the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs won last year and their star player, Patrick Mahomes, was expected to bring them the title yet again. The game kicked off and it was nothing to marvel at. In the first quarter the Eagles got the first touchdown, Jaylen Hurts, their quarterback, ran it in from the goal line. The crowd erupted with joy, as the underdogs took an early lead.
Nothing eventful happened from that point until the second quarter when the Eagles’ kicker made a 48 yard field goal bringing the score to 10-0 Eagles. Only a few minutes of game time later the 22 year old from South Dakota, Cooper DeJean picked off a terrible throw from Mahomes and ran it all the way back for a pick 6, it also so happened to be his birthday that day and I cannot imagine a better present than making the play of your career in the superbowl on your 22nd birthday.
The Chiefs were struggling to get the ball down the field and ended up losing it yet again. The Eagles had kept Mahomes on absolute lockdown the entire time without running a single blitz defense, a truly impressive feat as Mahomes is widely regarded as one of the best QBs in the league. To end off the second quarter, A.J. Brown received a 12 yard pass from Hurts bringing the score to 24-0. The Eagles had put up 17 points without allowing the Chiefs to score one.
Going into halftime Philadelphia fans were ecstatic, but I think everybody in that stadium and watching from home was more excited about the halftime show. Kendrick Lamar was performing with SZA, they just released a huge album and Kendrick has been blowing numbers off the charts lately. He performed a lot of songs ranging from his grammy winning song “Not Like Us”, where he changed some of the lyrics to avoid a lawsuit from Drake, but also to talk about some of the political injustice in the current system. The line “40 acres and a mule are we really bout to do it.” stood out to many because of the significance and the guts it probably took to say something like that during one of the most widely watched events in America. The choreography was amazing and coordinated, bringing SZA out was a great idea and the crowd loved it. But soon the show was over and the game resumed.
To start things off the Eagles kicked another field goal continuously raining points down on the Chiefs. To follow that up DeVonta Smith received a 46 yard touchdown from Hurts. Hopes were low in Kansas, as the loss became more and more eminent. But when all hope was lost Xavier Worthy finally managed to catch a ball in the end zone from Mahomes, sadly when going for two points they were stopped short. The score was now 34-6 Eagles but the Chiefs were back in it. They have been known for incredible comebacks during the second half and tension was rising. After 2 more field goals the Eagles were up 34 points in the 4th quarter, this would have either been the comeback of a lifetime or a horrible shut out. Devonte Hopkins and Xavier Worthy received 2 more touchdown passes for the Chiefs and they made both the 2 point conversions, but it was too late. The final score was 40-22 Eagles and the game was over. Kansas fans went home somberly but chaos erupted in Philadelphia everybody was partying and parading down the streets. The Eagles had played an amazing game covering everything from a lockdown no blitz defense to many great offensive plays, not to say that the Chiefs did not also play well, Mahomes had more passing yards than Hurts but they just couldn’t get past the defense. This was definitely not a super great superbowl or an interesting one to watch but still good overall.
