In the MCPS community, a new change has been set for spring break in the 2025-2026 school year. A lot of things are changing and getting updated in the district as of recently, including the layout of the school year as the next year rolls around.
MCPS has finalized their plans for the calendar for the next school year, moving its spring break to April from its current placement in March. It is now moved to April 6-10 for the 2025-2026 school year, no longer aligned with the University of Montana.
At the beginning of February, the MCPS Administration sent out emails to the community about their incentive to change the dates of spring break, and asking for feedback on the options.
It linked a survey, where students, parents and staff members could express their preference on when they want MCPS’ spring break to fall on. The survey was only open for a few days and closed submissions on Monday, Feb. 10.
The spring break now being separate from the University of Montana’s may cause challenges for some people’s usual plans, especially for planning trips and coordinating with MCPS students and university students.
There have been mixed reactions from students, with many finding it unnecessary and problematic. “I think it’s dumb because then we wouldn’t have a break for all of March and that’s like the worst time of the year. Also families with siblings or parents who are at the university don’t have their break aligned with us anymore,” said Junior, Meena Bulmahn.
“I like to have spring break in March better than April because April is so close to summer. My birthday is in March too, and it is fun to have my birthday near spring break!” said Sophomore, Paige Laatsch.
However, there are positives to the switch, because by April it actually does start to feel like spring and is starting to get warmer. “I feel like it’s kind of nice, because when spring break is over summer feels like it arrives faster,” said Junior, Anna Fortune.
Despite concerns from the community, the new spring break is already set. These new dates will no doubt be an adjustment for many families, but hopefully it will finally be nice to enjoy a warmer spring break.
