Popular rapper and artist Kendrick Lamar released a new album on  November 22, 2024. GNX was Lamar’s first album in two years, and for a long time he was becoming sort of irrelevant. However earlier this year Lamar and fellow rapper Drake got into a fight, and both of them were releasing diss tracks;  Lamar did not disappoint. He released song after song, one of which was “Not Like Us” which was his fourth song on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking several records. This beef put Lamar back on the maps, and a few months later he released his new album.

GNX is a very upbeat album utilizing many different beats and lyrics, it is much faster and more upbeat than a lot of his other albums, which makes sense as that is what the audience is listening to right now. 

There are a lot of different types of songs on this playlist. my personal favorite is “Luther” with SZA, a female artist. Lamar features her a lot and never disappoints. The song is much slower than the rest and has a very mellow beat. The female vocals also make the song much lighter.

Many believe that GNX was a bold statement, saying that he can do any type of music, and it’s for the most part true. Each song seems meticulously crafted and the varieties in the album keep the listeners engaged throughout.

The storytelling in this album is beautiful, as Lamar talks about how he tackles difficult things like self discovery and the duality of human nature. His ability to be vulnerable while still emanating confidence shows how powerful his music can really be.

GNX shows why Lamar is widely considered one of the greatest rappers of all time. It is rare to see an artist push out a project like this that feels so complete and meaningful. The album is truly a creative work of complex thoughts and art. Lamar has clearly established his spot as one of the top artists.
