Famous rapper Tyler the Creator, released a new album on Oct. 28 this year. The album is called Chromokopia and had some very mixed reviews. The album features many different artists that he usually wouldn’t work with. For example Florilla, who generally leans more towards more intense songs, while Tyler is known for his mellow beats and flowing songs. They only had one song together called Juicy. I personally thought that this song was one of the better songs of the album. It was very catchy and really strayed from how Tyler usually performs.
The main problem people had with this album was that it wasn’t very Tyler like, but I completely disagree. Tyler had always strayed from the line of “typical” rap and was very experimental, but people didn’t like this album for that very reason. I feel like Tyler grew a lot as an artist by branching out and doing something he usually doesn’t do. It takes a lot of skill to be good with multiple types of music, and I think Tyler is crushing it in that regard. This album had a few songs that you would expect from him and they were good, but it almost sounded like it shouldn’t have been on that album because they didn’t really fit.
There is a lot of speculation that Chromokopia is the opposite of one of his most popular albums, Igor. When you invert the colors on the albums they become each other and his hair is upside down on the album covers. I think that this is just speculation, but I wouldn’t put it past Tyler to do something like that but never tell anybody.
The album was so anticipated that I think people felt let down when it wasn’t how he usually does things.
I thought the album was incredibly good, the songs are all different in their own way but they somehow all fit together in a special way. Tyler’s way with words never disappoints, he is one of the most lyrically inclined artists I can think of. He can rhyme every word and make words that don’t rhyme fit almost perfectly together.
I truly think that this is one of Tyler’s better albums just because of how much growth it shows and how well put together it is. I’m hoping that he keeps up this type of music because it suits him very well.
