We made a poll asking students to submit which presidential candidate they would vote for if they could vote. We also asked them to submit their gender, age, and why they picked this candidate, but those questions were optional. Here is what we found:
Statistics:
Responses/Reasoning for choosing this candidate:
Voted for Harris:
17 Female: She is arguably the most qualified candidate ever, she has experience in all three legislative branches, she’s open and honest and very clear about the plan that she has and the policies that she wants to enact if elected.
15 female: Gun regulation and abortion access are important to me. I don’t agree with everything she’s said, but I would feel more protected with her as president. I also don’t disagree with everything Trump has said, however I wouldn’t be comfortable with voting for someone with multiple rape allegations and doesn’t care about my safety.
15 female: Because I’d rather not have all of my rights taken away, if I was raped or sexually assaulted and got pregnant from that, I wouldn’t want to live with that child and be reminded every single day for 9 months of the torture and abuse of being defiled. My rights are important, I am a person too and not only that but so many people would also be affected if the republican party one. Transgender people, the LGBTQ+ community, people of color and so many more would have their rights stripped away from them. People matter and who they are shouldn’t even be important to the government or anyone that isn’t our own person.
Female 14: Kamala has proven throughout her career to be well informed, good at her job, and that she cares about how our country ends up. Trump is a felon who has put countless racist, homophobic, and right violating laws into place. Along with this he has said and done very shady things, which are all incredible inappropriate for the leader of our country to represent. He is a national embarrassment.
Voted for Trump:
18 male: Because Kamala’s economic policies regarding tax cuts and new homeowner funding mean more government spending, furthering the country’s debt total. Though Trump’s policies are monetary as well, but they are slightly more sustainable.
16 Male: Because of many reasons. 1. Trump was actually chosen in a primary unlike Kamala. Even when she ran in 2020, she was projected to get 0 out of 3,979 delegates. She was put into this position because it looked good. 2. Trump actually talks with the people and will go out to the public unlike basement dweller Kamala Harris. 3. Kamala says that if she were president, that she would do all of these beautiful things, but why hasn’t she for the last 4 years, even though she was the vice president, she claimed that she was indeed the last to sign off on many things like the border and the cleanup of the hurricanes in FL. She says that she wants to stop the border crisis. She lies and signs off a bill that lets illegal immigrants into the country and lets them go around and kill adults, children, and eat our pets. With the Hurricanes, She claimed Gov. Ron Desantis was not cooperating with hurricane cleanup efforts but Ron Desantis said he was cooperating and even President Biden even said that as well. 5. Kamala brings up that if you don’t vote for her, you are a sexist and a racist. Well, that makes me dislike her more. I would much rather have a woman like Tulsi Gabbard be the president over her. Tulsi has policies I support and she is firm on them, unlike Kamala Harris, who flip flops on what sounds the best right now. Overall she is the worst person for this job. Even me, as a republican, would much rather have Biden run again over her.
18 Male: Donald Trump has consistently placed the life of Americans (and the life of the unborn) above all else. I desire to afford to own a home in this country, see stability in global warfare, see a reduction in crime in this country and have legitimately valuable personal liberties and freedoms fought for.
17 Male: He’s the one president I feel like we can have the most trust in fixing international relations and bring peace once again.
Voted for Stein:
Female: Jill Stein has great experience from her Harvard background. She has worked in medicine, supports sustainable environment ideas, and affordable housing. It is time that a woman is in office, but to me Kamala Harris doesn’t seem like she has as much experience with people as other women (other than being vice president and senator).
16 Female: She seems chill, and like she would actually help the planet. Plus I think the two system party thing isn’t working.
Male 14: I don’t know, the other just seem unintelligent for the most part.
Voted for Oliver:
14 Female: In my opinion, I wouldn’t vote for any of them because I don’t follow politics and I don’t have a genuine opinion on it.
