Hellgate’s volleyball team had their senior night on Oct. 29. All teams played a home game against Glacier. Unfortunately the majority of the students section was at the semi finals soccer game, which was happening at the same time. The soccer game ended right as the volleyball team started playing so most people rushed over as quickly as they could, turning out in a pretty good students section for a lot of the game. The theme was Halloween costumes so everybody was dressed in their costumes with their friends.
The JV team played very well but lost their first set. It didn’t stop them though and they proceeded to win the next set making it an even match. In the end Glacier managed to win the next two sets sadly and beat the team, but the girls played hard and didn’t give up which is what really matters in the end.
Once the varsity game started the senior night celebrations began. Donalynn Headswift’s family prepared a little ceremony for the girls, involving singing a song that her father wrote about her grandmother, giving handmade blankets to some of the coaches and giving gift bags to the seniors. It was a very special and meaningful thing to do.
The game started and was going great. Cady Schnieder was smashing the ball with many assists from Morgan Meissner and Moana Massey. The first set was decided quickly, and Hellgate’s spirits were high. But the game was not over yet; the girls got a little too confident and even though it was close, Glacier won the next set. There were some amazing plays and the chemistry on Hellgate’s team was evident, because they won the next set very quickly, only letting Glacier put up a handful of points.
Hellgate was on fire this game, everybody was playing their hardest and it showed. Glacier’s spirits were low and they were losing hope quickly; with every point Hellgate scored in the final set Glacier’s loss was becoming more and more evident. Hellgate won the set with almost twice as many points as Glacier.
The team was pumped and what was left of the students section was cheering and jumping around. Both teams did very well but Hellgate winning on their senior night was a very big win, especially as the second to last game of the season.
