Hellgate volleyball teams played Thursday the 28th here at Hellgate against Flathead’s varsity and JV teams. JV won in just 4 sets, which is impressive, only allowing one loss throughout the whole game. The Flathead team didn’t stand a chance.
The varsity game was also very one sided, with Hellgate’s newest varsity member Cady Schneider putting up point after point. She couldn’t have done it by herself though, senior Morgan Meisner, the Libero, along with senior Moana Massey, set her up every chance they got.
During the first set, Hellgate won by a landslide. The other team was not ready, but in the second set Flathead knew what was coming and were much better prepared. It was a close one but Hellgate still managed to get the point in the end. Hellgate’s spirits were high, the students roaring with excitement as they went into a possible final set. The dance team came out as well after that set, dancing to songs like FE!N by Travis Scott, which certainly entertained the students section. Obviously Flathead didn’t have a student section because it was a home game for Hellgate, but their JV team almost made up for that, with chants and taunts aimed more at our student section than the players, they even put on their own little show while our dance team was out.
Going into the third set the players were excited. Hellgate was electric, coming out of the gates strong. Within a matter of minutes the Knights were already up 10 points, but Flathead did not give up. They came back at us with everything they had and tied the game, almost taking the lead. It was a very close set until close to the end. With a couple well-set spikes and serve returns, Hellgate took the third set securing the win. Students were cheering and players rushed the court to congratulate each other on a game well played.
The team has an incredible chemistry leading to many successful games and hopefully a great shot at competing for state title this year. Shout out to Zoo Crew for leading the chants and always dressing out and participating. However, the students section could definitely use some more people cheering.
