Get hyped Hellgate! On Sept. 20, the Zoo Crew helped to initiate a pep rally to get students hyped for the upcoming football games and to show out for school spirit!
The rally started at 3:20 and was announced when Hellgate band students began to play. As everyone made their way into the quart yard, the band continued to play, letting the music fill the courtyard for a few minutes. The Hellgate dance team danced on the 2nd floor science bridge. There were also members of cheer, Zoo Crew, football seniors, and student body members scattered throughout the bridges helping cheer. Zoo Crew members on the 3rd-floor bridge announced that students needed to get more hyped for upcoming games.
They went over upcoming themes for the football games as well as the one that was later that night, the theme being USA. Overall the pep rally was true to its name. It was put together to get students to show more support for the football team and let people know about upcoming themes.
The showout of students filled the whole courtyard and there were even students standing near the windows inside watching.
Along with the dance team and band, Zoo Crew also mentioned the seniors who were playing football this year, which was followed by applause from the whole courtyard.
Near the end of the rally, Zoo Crew went over a few of Hellgate’s chants, one of the favorites and loudest chants being Red Hot.
Even though the rally was short, ending at 3:30, students at the football game later still showed out in full theme and color to support Hellgates’ varsity football.
Teachers seemed split on whether the rally was optional or if they should force their seventh period classes to go. While principal Judson Miller intended for it to be a whole school event and lots of kids did show up, it was nowhere near the size of the whole student body.
It seems to be a pattern that when there are assemblies or pep rallies after seventh period, there is a divide between the teachers who force their students to attend and the ones who don’t mind if they leave school early.
