Hellgate’s first home football game was held last Friday at the Washington-Grizzly Stadium against Great Falls. Going into the game spirits were up and our student section was excited.
The theme for the game was blackout, and everybody dressed out. The game started and things took a turn for the worst. Within the first 10 minute’s Great Falls had already scored a touchdown and made the extra point.
Things weren’t looking great during the first half. Hellgate had multiple plays that could have potentially ended in a touchdown, but Great Fall’s defense continuously shut them down.
By half time the student’s spirits were getting lower as it seemed impossible to come back from 40-0 at this rate.
The halftime show was done by the Hellgate dance team, they had multiple dance routines to different songs. Although you couldn’t really hear the music that was playing, the dancing was very well practiced and looked great. The cheerleaders were also very lively and energetic the whole time.
Hellgate managed to squeeze out a touchdown in the late third quarter after multiple frivolous attempts. They went for 2 points in an attempt to gain back some ground but were unsuccessful.
Great Falls scored a couple more times making the score 53-6, but Hellgate did not give up. We were able to stop Great Falls from gaining more points in the fourth quarter and scored again. This time we were able to secure the two points making the final score of the game 14-53.
Although the game didn’t go the way we hoped it would, Hellgate and our student section never gave up hope. The players tried their hardest and Zoo Crew led the students in cheers and spirits. It was a great game for all involved and we’re looking forward to many more games this year.
