MISSOULA- A plethora of 16 different Hellgate athletes have signed their national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level this fall. Featured sports ranging from soccer, to cross country, golf, cheerleading, swimming, baseball, track and field, and finally basketball, have highlighted these athletes for the last four years in red and gold. Here is a deeper look into the athletes that will continue their competitive dreams competing in college for each sport.
Cross Country/Track and Field 7
Audrey Baldwin, Cross Country, Chapman University
The final athlete to sign for distance running, Baldwin has been a pillar in recent Hellgate success. She PR’d in the fall for the 5000 meters with a time of 20:14.5, and then three more times this spring on the track. She ran a 5:37.54 in the 1600 meters, a 5:52.34 in the mile, and a 11:54.59 in the 3200 meters, for her second PR in that event this season.
Wilson Derry, Cross Country, Colorado College
One of the three male athletes to sign in the 2024 class, Wilson Derry will attend Colorado College after a gap year to continue running distance events. Throughout his time with the Knights, Derry has earned a PR in the 5000 meters of 15:59.1, and has ran personal bests three times this season. Those were in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:32.62, the mile with a time of 4:42.04, and finally the 3000 meters where Derry ran a 9:13.30.
Stella Diaz, Cross Country, Boise State University
Stella Diaz has been a key part of Hellgate cross country success the last few years, while also playing a big role in bringing home two state titles during her time running for the Knights. She placed sixth at the 2023 AA Cross Country meet with a time of 18:52.5 and more recently earned a personal record in the 3200 meters at the 2024 Archie Row Invitational with a time of 11:25.94.
Sophia Miller, Cross Country, Montana State University
Another dual sport athlete for the Knights, Miller has been featured on the basketball court, as well as the track in her four years with Hellgate. She has also competed during both cross country and track seasons in distance events. Miller ran an all time best in the 5000 meters cross country event of 20:03.6 and has also earned multiple PR’s this season on the track in the 400, 800, and 1600 meter events. Those times recorded were 59.43, 2:13.47, and 5:01.74.
Alix Mund, Track and Field, Boise State University
Alix Mund has made her mark on Hellgate athletics in her past four years with the Knights. From success on the soccer field, on the basketball court, and finally jumping, she has more than earned a piece of Hellgate history. She has received personal records in both the long jump and triple jump events with leaps of 17’ 3.5”, and 37’ 3.5” respectively, while hovering at the top of class AA competition in nearly every season she has competed in.
Kaitlyn Skinner, Cross Country, Montana State University
Once again, another key piece of success in long distance running for the Knights, Skinner has been a leader on Hellgate’s strong team with an all time best in the 5000 meters of 19.21.1 where Hellgate took home gold in 2022, and then again with a time of 19.32.3 in 2023 where Hellgate brought home gold for a second straight year. She also ran a PR in the 1600 meters this season, pacing an outdoor time of 5:01.8 and an all time record in the mile of 5.30.62.
Rose Wiltse, Cross Country, University of Chicago
The first of many in the 2024 class to commit for distance running, Wiltse finished her career with the Knights earning an overall PR in the 5000 meters of 18:17.8 on Sept. 29, 2023 at the Desert Twilight XC Festival in Arizona. She also set a personal best, 12:11.27 in the 3200 meters, while helping the Hellgate girls team win back-to-back state titles in 2022-2023.
Soccer 4
Carmen Anderson, Central Washington University
The reigning AA All-State player of the year in 2023 was the biggest firecracker for Hellgate soccer in the past four years. Carmen won an All-Conference selection as a freshman, before earning three straight All-State honors as a forward. She led the Knights to recent fame in three-straight city championships, back-to-back AA conference championships, and three state semifinal appearances, In her final season wearing red and gold, she scored 24 goals on 11 assists to lead the state, before signing to play her next four seasons in Ellensburg, Washington.
Chloe Anderson, Whitman College
One of the most clutch free-kicks in recent Hellgate history belongs to Chloe Anderson. The senior midfielder, who received three straight All-Conference honors, assisted Elly Reed in the final seconds of the 2023 AA semifinal game to send the Knights to their first state championship appearance in program history. She finished her senior season with 2 goals on five assists en-route to signing with a competitive college in Washington where she will spend her next four years.
Jaden Lumpkin, Skagit Valley College
The first of four commits out of the 2024 Hellgate women’s soccer program, Jaden Lumpkin received back-to-back AA All-Conference honors in 2022-2023 for her outstanding defense. The senior defender will attend one of the most competitive NWAC schools in the Northwest, after helping the Knights reach the state championship game in her final season.
Riley Lumpkin, Skagit Valley College
Riley Lumpkin was a key part of Hellgate soccer success over the last four years with the Knights. She also earned back-to-back All-Conference honors in 2022-2023, while scoring 11 goals on five assists in her final year in red and gold. The powerful forward will accompany her sister to some of the best Northwest region soccer in college sports next year.
Golf 1
Anna Stensrud, University of Montana
Stensrud was the pinnacle of Hellgate womens golf in recent history. The standout senior earned back-to-back All-State finishes in her junior and senior seasons, while taking home gold in six tournaments throughout her career. After her more recent top-five finish at the 2023 state tournament in Billings, Stensrud signed to stay home for her next four years with the Griz. She will accompany one other athlete as the only golfer to sign with the Griz for the 2024 class.
Girls Basketball 1
Chloe Larson, University of Montana
Chloe Larson was a standout guard and led the girls basketball team to success each of the last four years at Hellgate. The senior tallied 843 career points for the Knights, alongside 202 rebounds, 70 assists, and 82 steals in her final season in red and gold. Larson also tallied a whopping eight double-doubles on the season, including a triple-double, en-route to finishing her career with two All-State honors, two All- Conference honors, and earning both the co-offensive and defensive player of the year awards as well as the Co-Western AA player of the year.
Swimming 1
Michael Schermerhorn, University of Puget Sound
Michael Schermerhorn will compete for the next four years at the University of Puget Sound in the pool. The flashy senior recorded a time of 2:07.18 at the 2024 State swimming meet to earn 5th in the Boys 200 Yard IM event. Schermerhorn will compete in the NCAA DIII Northwest Conference against competitive schools in Washington, and Oregon.
Baseball 1
Brennan Labbe, Centralia College
Labbe has competed in baseball during all four years of his time at Hellgate, on both competitive legion and travel clubs. He finished his junior season with a .418 batting average, .554 on base percentage, .712 slugging percentage, and a 1.267 OPS. He will join Centralia College which competes in the Northwest Athletic Conference during the upcoming fall, as an outfielder and left-hand pitching recruit.
Cheerleading 1
Jillian Fontaine, Missouri Valley College
Jillian will travel east to compete in Missouri as a cheerleading athlete during the upcoming school year. Missouri Valley College is an NAIA school that competes in the FCS for football and cheerleading. It is a private liberal arts school located in Marshall, Missouri.
