On Feb. 11, Usher headlined at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show. He wasn’t the only one to perform during the big game, a few surprise performers were brought out with him.
Usher is a nine-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter, who is also famous for his on-stage dances. Fans were speculating on social media what songs he would open with and play for the show.
Usher has nine studio albums and nine single that went #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Most assumed he would make an entrance with his most popular song “Yeah!”; however, Usher opened the show wearing an all white suit, with his first song being “Caught Up”. The crowd erupted in cheering as soon as he stepped on the stage, and didn’t stop until he left.
During the middle of his 15-minute performance, Usher came on stage wearing roller skates along with his backup dancers while singing his hit “OMG” with Will.i am.
Throughout the performance, Usher had multiple guest appearances, minus the anticipated appearance of Justin Beber. The first guest, Alicia Keys played her and Usher’s song “My Boo”, followed by American R&B singer, H.E.R with an exciting guitar solo. As the show went on, Lil Jon and Ludacris joined the stage for “Turn Down for What” and the hit of the night, “Yeah!”.
In all, Usher’s setlist consisted of 14 songs, making for a very entertaining halftime show. I enjoyed watching Usher’s performance, although I wouldn’t say it was my favorite Super Bowl halftime show. I think that Usher had a lot to compete with after Rihanna’s performance at last year’s Super Bowl. I did enjoy the guests that were brought on stage, as well as the overall atmosphere of the show. It was fun to hear his tracks that were popular throughout my childhood, but I think there could have been a bigger emphasis on these songs.
