Rapper and record producer, J. Cole, released a new album on April 5, 2024. This album contains 12 tracks, 3 with features. The album is named “Might Delete Later”, following his latest album “The Off Season” released in 2021. This new album has gained a lot of attention due to an ongoing feud between some of the biggest names in the rap industry,
On March 22, Metro Boomin released its newest album “We Don’t Trust You” . Rapper and singer/songwriter Kendrick Lamar made an appearance on the track “Like That”. In it he addressed some of Drake and J. Cole’s lyrics in“First Person Shooter”, a track on Drake’s recent album “For All the Dogs”. In this song he mentions the “Big Three” Referring to Lamar, Drake and himself, “Love when they argue the hardest emcee / Is it K. Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? / We the big three like we started a league,” says Cole. Lamar responds in “Like That” by saying, “The big three … It’s just big me”.
Fast forward to J. Cole’s album, in his track “7 Minute Drill”, that already has 13 million listens on Spotify, Cole disses Lamar for the duration of the song. For example “He’s still doing shows but he fell off like The Simpsons.” This song gained attention very fast due to the ongoing back and forth between the four artists. This past Sunday, J. Cole publicly responded to his diss track at his Dreamville Festival. He says “I’m so proud of -Might Delete Later- except for one part” and continued by saying, “That’s the lamest … I did in my … life.” After this statement, J.Cole announced that he would be removing it from streaming platforms. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the recent actions of these artists, some think that Cole’s response in his new album was immature, and it goes against what the hip-hop community is for. This opinion stems from the famous feud between Biggie Smalls and Tupac that ended in the death of Tupac. While others are invested in the back and forth and are waiting for the next move.
