If you’re looking to celebrate Valentine’s Day alone or with others, here are some of the must watch romance movies in the last 60 years.
Love Story (1970)- An oldie but a goodie. A story about a boy and a girl from different socioeconomic classes falling in love and dealing with life’s struggles. It will make you laugh and cry, truly a heartwarming (and heartbreaking) film.
Ten Things I Hate About You (1999)- A modern(ish) retelling of William Shaekspear’s “The Taming of the Shrew”. A story that begins with ill intentions but ends with true love, a really adorable film.
Set It Up (2018)- The story of two assistants who attempt to set their bosses up in order to get some free time, they end up getting so much more than that. It’s super cute and funny, just a great watch.
Pretty Woman (1990)- A girl from nothing meets a guy with everything and they fall in love. It’s a classic and it is done incredibly well. If you haven’t seen it, “big mistake, big, huge.”
Mama Mia (2008)- I mean it’s Mama Mia, literally so great. If you love comedy, music, and romance all in one film, this is definitely the one for you. A very very fun film.
The Notebook (2004)- A love story for the ages, told across the lifespan. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but it is truly a beautiful film and love story.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)- This isn’t a falling in love story, it’s a staying in love story. Again, people from different backgrounds have fallen in love, but this time they must face the prejudice of his family. Don’t worry though, love conquers all.
La La Land (2016)- Sometimes even if you love something, you have to let it go. That is really the takeaway from this movie, it is a beautiful story with incredibly gorgeous cinematography. It really breaks your heart, but you know it’s for the best.
