The 66th annual Grammy awards were held this Sunday, February 4th, hosted by Trevor Noah. This night recognizes outstanding achievements in the music industry, and many artists have the chance to be celebrated.
One of the most notable moments of the night was at the very end, when Taylor Swift accepted the album of the year award. This marks Swift’s fourteenth Grammy award along with her fourth album of the year award, officially being the first person to ever win this award four times. This win drew some controversy as Swift beat out artists such as Lana Del Rey and SZA, who was projected to be the winner by many.
This was not the only big splash that Swift made at the award show. While Swift was accepting her first award of the night for ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’, she made the announcement that she would be releasing a brand new album called ‘The Tortured Poets Department”. Soon after the announcement she released the tracklist, which included features with both Post Malone and Florence + the Machine.
Miley Cyrus also won two Grammys, including her first ever win for best pop solo performance for her song “Flowers”. She won record of the year, again for “Flowers.” Additionally, best New artist went to Victoria Monet. Billie Eilish won song of the year for her song “ What Was I Made For?” from the motion picture “Barbie”.
There were a few notable performances throughout the night as well, including Travis Scott, who showcased his songs “I Know” “My Eyes” and “Fein”. This show consisted of flames and smashing folding chairs on stage, making for a mixed reaction from the audience. Later on in the night Country star Luke Combsjoined Tracy Chapman on stage in a performance of her three decade old hit “Fast Car”. Billy Joel also made his return to the music scene after 30 years with a brand new single, “Turn the Lights Back On”.
