The Hunger Games is a well-renowned series, both in books and movies. A new Hunger Games came out recently, but it is not like the rest of the movies because this one if about the creation of the Hunger Games as we know it, as well as the background of the Heads Game Master, Coriolanis Snow.
This movie revolves primarily around him as he grows up and why he is the way that he is in the modern-day Hunger Games. He comes from a poor family and is attending a school for the very rich and needs to try to fit in so his family can afford to keep him attending this top academy. However, there was a change in the final and the top students were supposed to take care of a member of the games. He is later forced to go back to District 12 because of an altercation that happens during the game, where he spends a good amount of time and meets a special somebody. But at the end of the movie, he is a changed man.
I thought that the effects in the movie were really good and the pacing was on point. There were little times when I felt like the whole thing was moving too slowly. I felt like I had a much better understanding of the Hunger Games original series.
In my opinion, the actors were cast very well. They all fit the character and were good actors to start with. I think that there were some parts that could have been explained more. A lot of people say that the book that this movie is based on does a slightly better job describing things, but that is expected as you can make a book much longer than a movie.
I thought this movie was quite emotional and engaging.
I would definitely recommend it to people, however, I feel like without having prior knowledge of the Hunger Games series makes this movie a lot better. There are hints of foreshadowing and things you can notice about this movie that either stay true or lead to things in modern movies.
Overall I would give this movie an 8.5 out of ten. I think it was very well written and people should definitely watch this movie if they are interested in these kinds of movies.
