The Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie was a surprising and exciting release to many and several viewers and game players were unsure how the game to movie adaptation would be executed. Unfortunately, the general consensus was that it left much to be desired.
Despite the fact that the film had a phenomenal cast, starring Josh Hutcherson, the poor writing and storytelling completely undermined the potential of the acting had the writing been any more effective. The writing is bland and redundant, adding focus to unimportant aspects of the film. This was bizarre to see as the actual storyline that was put together was overall quite entertaining and intriguing. However, the storyline required viewers to have some previous knowledge of the Five Nights at Freddy’s game or backstory.
The use of music was not attention worthy in any way, though it is important to listen to as some of the score involves a degree of symbolism that is important to further understanding the film. Though directly it did not contribute to the film’s atmosphere.
While many people were interested to see the animatronics on the live screen, their effectiveness in building fear and suspense as is done in the game was inadequate and frankly bored viewers. The imagery of the animatronics were campy, but so too were the murder scenes.
Although not all was bad, they targeted their audience well by sticking to the theme of the game, and had very good props and animatronics accurate to the game. However the movie required too much of an understanding of previous events in the games that led up to the movie. The movie had a great plot twist, however it was rushed into and executed poorly.
Overall the Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie had a great plot and potential storyline however, its execution left much to be desired. We rate the Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie ⅗ stars.
