With the homecoming game and spirit week coming up, many Hellgate Knights are looking forward to making memories with their friends and embracing the homecoming spirit. School spirit helps students feel more connected to the Hellgate community and connectedness improves overall happiness. Students feel good when they participate.
Spirit week is a great way to create an energetic atmosphere within the school as we lead up to the big event, the football game. School spirit and rooting for your team can be a great part of the high school experience. The classic high school movie is almost never without the much anticipated homecoming football game, and the week of Sept. 18 – 22 is Hellgate’s student body’s time to shine.
This year’s homecoming is against the Glacier Wolfpack. Hellgate comes in as major underdogs into the match-up at Washington Grizzly stadium, even more of a reason to cheer the team on and a great way to end homecoming week.
School organized spirit activities bring the student body together and add joy and fun to the typically calm and chill Hellgate High School atmosphere. School spirit builds community and community creates safety, belonging, and support. There are school organized activities that include a bonfire on Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at the Riverbowl, dodgeball at lunch on Thursday, and a pep rally on Friday during school. All of these activities are free and everyone is encouraged to join and enjoy all of the homecoming activities throughout the week.
Community can give a Hellgate Knight a sense of place. A strong sense of community is key in supporting students in becoming great citizens, which ultimately makes the world a better place. The Hellgate community wants each member to feel welcomed and included. Talking to classmates, providing school spirit, and a fun environment for all will result in a successful homecoming week for all students.
So participate in spirit week in order to make the world a better place!
