The 2023 homecoming week is right around the corner here at Hellgate High School. From Sept. 18-22, Hellgate will be bustling with activity, leading up to a big game on Friday against Glacier High School at the MCPS stadium.
Each day of the week, Hellgate students are encouraged to dress up and show their spirit according to the theme. Monday will be Color Day, with freshmen dressing in pink, sophomores in blue, juniors in green, and seniors in orange.
Tuesday will be Jersey vs. Jersey Shore, essentially a sports vs. beach theme, with the beach being influenced by the reality TV show, Jersey Shore.
Wednesday will be Decades Day, having each grade level dress as a certain decade. Freshmen will be ‘50s, sophomores will be ‘60s, juniors will be ‘70s, and seniors will be ‘80s. Staff are also encouraged to join and dress up as ‘90s.
Thursday will be a battle between two popular films that hit the big screens this year, with a theme of Barbie vs. Oppenheimer.
Finally, Friday will be the chance for Knights to really show their school spirit by dressing from head to toe in the school colors of red and gold.
Along with daily themes, students and staff will have the chance to participate in various competitions and activities at lunch throughout the week.
Monday at lunch, anyone interested is welcome to play in a cornhole open tournament before the finals on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, there will be Wii in the courtyard for people to play games such as Just Dance.
Thursday will have a dodgeball competition open to any student who is interested. Friday will not have a lunch activity, but instead will have a shortened schedule to make room for a homecoming assembly at the end of the day. There will also be merch sales in the commons during lunch every day of the week.
