Homecoming Postponed
Homecoming week at Hellgate is full of dress up days, games, a bonfire, a football game and, usually, a homecoming dance, all to celebrate being back in school.
The last couple of years there hasn’t been a homecoming dance due to Covid. This year students were excited to hear that we would finally have a homecoming dance. Unfortunately homecoming had to be postponed due to the administration believing that the National Honors Society was not ready to host the homecoming dance and that they hadn’t covered all liabilities.
“NHS is hoping to work more closely with the admin and our new advisers to still have a dance for the student body in the fall,” NHS member Eden Maxwell said.
Though the homecoming dance is being postponed, NHS is still trying to give the student body a dance as fast as they can. “The end goal is to create a fun and positive dance for the student body and more time is just going to be needed to make that happen,”said Maxwell
Students were disappointed about not having the dance at the end of homecoming week. “As a freshman it’s disappointing to hear that it’s being postponed. I was really looking forward to going to homecoming this year but it’s nice to hear that they’re still going to try and have a fall dance, ” Rae Brown said.
Sophomore Zayne Henderson said, “It’s kind of a let down that they told us they would have a homecoming dance just to say it’s postponed the week before homecoming. I was looking forward to homecoming because the last dance we had just wasn’t very exciting.”
The junior class has never had a homecoming dance, since their freshman year was the year that we returned from “It’s really disappointing to have it be postponed especially because for the juniors it would’ve been our first homecoming dance as high schoolers” said Junior Hadley Youbles.
“The seniors have never really had a homecoming dance. Hellgate is more of a school where dressing up and showing school spirit is more important,” said Jules Lane.
Homecoming being postponed has struck a nerve in the student body but one thing that came up a lot was hope for the fall dance that NHS is hoping to host.
