Clickbait is a new drama, thriller miniseries on Netflix. It is an intriguing show that pulls the viewer in with its twists and turns. Each episode has you looking for more as the plot grows thicker. 

 

It was released on Aug. 25, 2021 and received a score of 54% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.3/10 on IMDb. The miniseries was created by Tony Ayres and Christian White. The show was directed by Brad Anderson, Emma Freeman, Ben Young and Laura Besley. There are eight episodes total. It was filmed in Melbourne, Australia, although the show is set in Oakland, California. 

 

The main characters are Adrian Grener as Nick Brewer. Nick Brewer is the family man who got put in a sinister online video. Zoe Kazan played Pia Brewer. Pia Brewer is the scatterbrained sister of Nick Brewer. Betty Gabriel as Sophie Brewer, the wife of Nick Brewer. Even though many of the cast was not well-known, they all did an amazing job. 

 

The series is about a well-known family man who got abducted. A mysterious video was posted online showing Nick Brewer holding a sign saying, “At 5 million views I die”. His close family and friends scramble to discover what happened and why, all while questioning if they truly knew who Nick Brewer was. Each episode makes you believe a different character is responsible for Nick’s fate.

 

Clickbait reveals the dangerous side of social media to show how dark things can get. Nick Brewer was apparently on several different dating sites and talking to several different women despite being married. Spoiler alert: In the end we find out that someone had been catfishing and pretending to be Nick the whole time. 

 

The show reveals how social media can turn bad and have negative effects on the lives of others. The person who was catfishing as Nick Brewer hurt several people in the long list of tragic events that occurred throughout the show.
