Initial Standings in the NFL

This year, the start of the NFL has been somewhat unpredictable, except for the Patriots dynasty slaughtering all the competition, standing at 5-0, which was expected even with tight end Rob Gronkowski’s release last year.

One of the more unexpected turnouts this year has been Baker Mayfield’s poor performance compared to last year. Mayfield has only thrown 4 touchdowns in his first 5 games with the Browns this season. In the 2018 season within the first 5 games Mayfield had thrown 6, which is not a huge difference, but then again he was throwing many more at the end of last season so he has improved a ton since the start of last season. Although there is not a huge difference in TD completion, his percentage last season was 81.9% when this season he is only at 68.5%. He will most likely make a comeback and improve those stats later in the season.

Last season the 49ers did not have nearly as strong of a start as the team this year. In the first 5 games, the 49ers are 5-0, which has been a result of Garoppolo’s ability to connect simple passes, and the fact that the defense has been able to really start locking the opposition down. It is very early in the season, but there is a good chance they will be making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

Another upset this year is the mediocre performance of the Los Angeles Rams. In their first games they have gone 3-3 where as last year they were 5-0-1 in the first six games, and they didn’t lose until the ninth game. This season, there is a much smaller chance for them to make it to the Super Bowl.

While it is still very early in the season seeing the way that the 49ers are able to move the ball and lock up defense I think when the dust settles from the playoffs it’ll be the Patriots against the 49ers in the Super Bowl. From there who knows what will happen since both these teams have been playing very proactively.
