New Movies Spring/Summer 2019

As summer gets closer there are many new movie releases. Here is a guide describing some of the most hyped new releases for the spring 2019 season. Some of the movies are highly anticipated parts of series, such as the Avengers, and some are stand alone movies which are just as exciting. In addition to this, Disney continues their real-people remakes of cartoons with the Lion King.


The Lion King

Release Date: July 19th

It is known that Disney has a plan to remake popular cartoon movies into live action movies such as The Jungle Book and The Beauty and the Beast. The Lion King is the next remake, following the same plot as the original, but with live action characters.



Release Date: March 29th

Another Disney remake of a cartoon classic. In the tory of a gifted circus elephant, Tim Burton directs this children’s film. The tale of an elephant who is able to fly and his relationship with two children. The story of Dumbo is truly heartbreaking and the live action version is no less sad.


Avengers: Endgame

Release Date: April 26th

At the end of the most recent Avengers movie (Avengers Infinity War), fans were left heartbroken with the death of half the Avengers (and the rest of the world). It is suspected that the Avengers that were killed during this movie will be brought back in this movie and will ultimately be able to save the world from the villain, Thanos.

This movie was directed by the same person as the popular horror film, Get Out. The film follows an African American family as they go on vacation in California. The mother of the family has a haunted past that she is reminded of when they return to the beach on which she had a traumatic experience. This is a thrilling movie with an interesting plot with plenty of twists, and an eerie resolution.


Captain Marvel

Release Date: March 8th

A new superhero is introduced to the Marvel movie franchise. The female Captain Marvel

This superhero is anticipated to make an appearance in the the newest Avengers movie (discussed below).

This film covers the life of the musician Elton John from his childhood and his rise in fame. His life as a child prodigy is told along with his life in Philadelphia.
